There are two things I never do when it comes to my personal style. Two style rules that feel totally faux pas when it comes to curvy or plus size “fashion.” The first is matching my shoes to my top. Why do people feel like you need to match? Nothing shows less creativity and thinking red goes with red. Second, is wearing the same material from head to-toe, like the denim on denim trend.
Who remembers Brittney Spears and Justin Timberlake in their denim outfits in the early 2000’s? Maybe I’m just scared from those scary limbo times between the 1990s and now, but I feel like style for us fatties has really grown and expanded to be more “normal.” Not quite at the same standard as straight sized clothing, but we have come quite far from the grandma print moomoos and shapeless pants meant to “flatter” our bodies.
With more clothing option actually available in stores for us to try on before buying, it’s almost as if plus size girlies are more fashionable than ever. Never would I imagine I would be able to pull off a denim-on-denim trend outfit but thanks to certain retailers making extended sizes more accessible..I bring you my first head-to-toe denim OOTD!
Both the denim chambray and the dark “rockstar” fit denim are from my favorite affordable story, Old Navy. I kicked-up this basic outfit with a pair of burgundy pointed-toe pumps. You can’t really tell from the photos but the chambray actually has white stars on it that looks like someone took a sponge with paint to it.
The key to pulling off this look is to have two different tones of denim. If you wear the same tone of denim, the denim trend may come off more Brittney spears in late the 90s.
